notes from proposal:

3 key strands for narrative -

1. day in life of pool
 - told through the eyes of a lifeguard, who narrates to the audience
 - day begins: lifeguard appears, tests water, putting lanes out - - -  'i love seeing the water still'
 - swimmers arriving - - - - - people being described by lifeguard
 - people getting changed - - - - using rotunda windows
 - swim lessons/adults only/swim club/  - - - - - - - my favourites the synchro club, so committed
 - people relaxing pool side
 - drama in the pool - - - - someone abandoned at deep end, still traumatised today - mrs J, sitting in clothes at poolside - puts on costume and joins in with celebration at end
 - pool closed, night time - - - - solo swim, joy of swimming

2. key historic events of Saltdean Lido
 - pool build - - - 1938
 - 1938 pool opening - - - - - - celebration scene 1  bunting out
 - 1940 ww2 pool closed - - - bunting away, barbed wire + fire hoses..
 - 1964 pool reopens -  heyday - - - - - perfect pool scene
 - 1994 pool closed… - - - - - -  dry ice
 - 1997 private take over/lido disrepair - - - - everybody out of the pool/ shark attack
 - 2010 SSLC formed - CIC take over - - - - - - - shark disopsed of by community using people power in dinghies… celebration scene 2  - bunting out again

3. responses to 'why I swim'
Qs: why do you go swimming ? what do you like about swimming? what's your favourite thing about swimming? is swimming a shared experience for you? why swim outdoors?

it's like flying/like being a fish
 - - - - - project swimmers flying amongst clouds; giant seagull's wings filling building
 - - - -   project swimmers swimming on sea bed with fish etc
 - - - -  live camera filming underwater
> isolation/peace/contemplation
 - - - magical dreamlike world of underwater, sea rays from sun, swimming in night sky with moon
> freedom from physical stress/limitations
> body and mind are one/sensuality/floating free/physicality/body made energy
 - socialising/part of a team/lshared experience/inclusive
 - fun/new playground

notes from meeting:
 - content should be largely generic/timelss, not especially specific to Saltdean
 - Lido as a social/sexual meeting space
- Jesse talks about swimmer paralysed from diving board accident who has learnt to swim again
 - and Lynn MacKenzie who was involved in pool re-openings
 - the secret life of the pool… Jessie mentioned lifeguards' secret codes/hand signals; swimming after dark
 - the idea of hilighting that swimming is not a wonderful thing for everyone, has traumatic potential
